School of Arts & Sciences Academic Planning & Advising

Welcome to the School of Arts and Sciences!

First-year students who have been admitted to, and have enrolled at the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey should plan to attend an Academic Planning & Advising (APA) Kickoff Day this Spring. Course selection is not first-come, first-served, so you may attend any convenient date in which space is available.

Students who live over 200 miles away from Rutgers: We encourage you to attend an APA day if possible.

Students who cannot attend one of these dates will automatically be contacted through the summer with information about how to complete your academic planning from home. You do not need to contact us if you cannot attend one of these Academic Planning & Advising days.

Please complete their placement testing prior to attending an APA program. Go to to complete your testing.

APA programs are only for first-year students enrolling in the School of Arts and Sciences. Do NOT attend APA if:
1. You have not been admitted to the School of Arts and Sciences.
2. You are enrolling in a different school at Rutgers such as Rutgers Business School, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, School of Engineering, School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers-Newark or Rutgers-Camden. These Schools all have separate programs for their students.
3. You are a transfer student from another college or university. Students transferring to the School of Arts and Sciences will be invited to a STAR day during the summer, and cannot attend APA days.

School of Arts and Sciences Academic Planning & Advising (APA) - Class of 2022

The Academic Planning and Advising (APA) program will introduce you to the academic opportunities available in the School of Arts and Sciences.

You will learn about the innovative SAS Core Curriculum and will meet with professional advisers and faculty to request your first semester classes.

A separate program for parents/guardians highlighting information about academics, student life, housing, financial aid, and other campus services will run concurrently. Due to space constraints, please limit the number of guests accompanying you to no more than two parents or guardians.
